This is the story of an ordinary little boy. Well, not so ordinary. He's haunted by the spirit of a woman whose skin is as gray as ash. She's always telling him the same thing: "Stay away from the pylons."
The little boy doesn't understand why. There have always been pylons near his home. Yet the Officer of the Law warns him not to play near pylons. Apparently, there have been accidents and children have died.
The Pylon Man, who is in charge of the repairs, doesn't seem to be doing his job. He keeps asking the boy if he's seen any strange pylons. The boy always answers, "no."
One day, the child meets a mysterious Hooded Stranger. He tells him strange things about pylons and a stone circle.
The little boy goes in search of the stone circle. When he finds it, he notices that there's blood on the stones, then the child finds and picks up a piece of paper from the ground. A drawing of a person sacrificed in a circle to a metal monster. Just then, the woman's ghost appears.
"Stay away from the pylons."
"Because of this?" The child asks while showing her the drawing.
"Yes."
"I don't understand."
"Mother Mettel..." Says the specter before disappearing.
The boy is confused. He returns home.
The next day, he wakes up to a loud hum.
"The pylons’ Hum." Said the ghostly woman as she materialized near him. "Don't let It get you!"
"What?"
The spirit vanishes. The boy leaves his house and it disappears! In the distance, he sees children. Their skins are gray, like ashes, like the ghostly woman. Frightened, he tries to find the Officer of the Law, but he's nowhere to be found.
The child, in a panic, sees the Pylon Man and calls for help. The Pylon Man smiles and turns into a monster. The boy runs away.
As he runs, he sees another monster in pursuit. It's the transformed Officer of the Law. What's going on? Sometimes, the little boy thinks he sees living pylons, but they disappear immediately. This terrifies him.
He's hiding in a cave that seems to have appeared out of nowhere. There is the mysterious Hooded Stranger. The Stranger explains everything. The pylons are, in fact, evil entities.
Since the dawn of time, they've been using adults to sacrifice children in order to bring Mother Mettel to the human world. Mother Mettel's arrival will destroy the world! Fortunately, the Stranger knows how to stop Her and Her Children.
"The only thing needed to do is to place this Signal Jammer at the top of the radio tower. I'd go and do it, but... The Hum... It's so loud..."
"The Hum?" The child asks the Stranger. "It was The One who woke me up."
"This is what pylons use to possess, to turn adults into monsters, into their servants. Here."
The Stranger gives the boy the Signal Jammer.
"Place it at the tower. QUICKLY! Before..."
Suddenly, the Stranger screams and transforms into a monster. The woman's ghost appears. She tells the child to run.
The little boy emerges from the cave and runs towards the radio tower. Monsters and living pylons chase him. The woman's ghost follows the boy.
"Tell me," he asks the spirit that has haunted him for so long, "did you know all this time about the pylons?"
"Yes, but I couldn't tell you. The evil force of the pylons prevented me."
"What's happened to you? Your skin is gray, like the children I saw earlier."
"They're the spirits of the children sacrificed to the pylons. They tried to possess me, but as I have a supernatural gift, the Hum didn’t work on me. So, I was pushed onto a pylon and died."
"It's awful!"
The gray skin was due to electrocution burns.
The little boy arrives at the radio tower. He climbs the ladder. The monsters no longer follow him.
"That's strange..." Said the ghostly woman. "Why are they giving up?"
"It's not important. Soon, the pylons and Mother Mettel will be destroyed!"
"Precisely. How did this Stranger know how to stop them? Even with my gift, I didn't know how to defeat them."
Then she understood why, but it was too late. The child reached the top of the tower. He placed the Signal Jammer. The sky turned dark.
"NOOOOOO!" She shrieks.
"What's going on?" Ask the little boy.
Thunder rumbles, lightning flashes across the sky, and the child sees a huge pylon monster with tentacles.
"Mother Mettel..." Murmured the child.
Then his psyche shatters. He falls to the bottom of the tower, crashing to the ground.
The boy's spirit joins the ghostly woman. They watch helplessly as Mother Mettel prepares to destroy the human world.
